About Dr. theol. Uta Blohm

Offering psychotherapy and counselling

in English and German

I am bringing my life experiences to my work. German born I have lived and worked in London for many years where my children were born and where I trained as an integrative psychotherapist. Integrative psychotherapy (and counselling) uses insights from many different schools of thought to tailor the treatment to your needs.

I am working on-line as well as in person. Many of my clients prefer to work in person, in particular when they are working from home. That does not mean that on-line therapy is less effective.

I work cross with people from all walks of life (and all ages) - and aim to be sensitive to issues of difference.

I am holding a doctorate in Christian theology (on inter-faith relation) - not in medicine! This gives me an understanding how life affirming and destructive religious traditions can be. I spent a lot of time researching the various forms of silencing people in faith communities. I will have time to listen to you that you find your own voice. I will not impose my world view onto you but walk alongside you.

My Qualifications

MA Integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling (Middlesex University, U.K.)

(Dissertation: Working as a Psychotherapist in a Second Language)

Advanced Diploma Integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling (Minster Centre)

Diploma Integrative Counselling (Minster Centre)

Dr. theol. (Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal)

(Dissertation: Religious Traditions and Personal Stories: Women Working as Priests, Ministers and Rabbis)

Several Publications related to spirituality & counselling

Pioneers Of Integrative Training Since 1978

2006 - 2012 Training in Integrative Psychotherapy at the Minster Centre in London (UK)

The Minster Centre is a well established, BACP regulated training institute for integrative psychotherapy and counselling.

I completed the training with an MA (accredited by Middlesex University), the 'Advanced Diploma Integrative Psychotherapy' and a diploma in integrative counselling.

The European Association for Psychotherapy

I am a member of Deutscher Dachverband für Psychotherapie e.V. DVP, which is recognised by the EAP. The EAP promotes Psychotherapy within in Europe. I have been a DVP board member for three years (2019 - 2022).

The EAP recognises the integrative approach as evidence based.

I am an ECP holder.

Integrative Work

Integrative Psychotherapy uses tools and insights from many different psychotherapeutic schools to understand what is going on in your life.

My basic orientation is analytic but I am also trained to work humanistically and use interventions from body work as well as CBT. Most recently, I have integrated mindfulness into my work.

Work Experience

  • Since 2015 Private Practice in Hannover-Kleefeld

As part of my training I worked for several counselling services:

  • 2011 - 2013 Counsellor at the Metro Centre (London):

LGBT Counselling Service, Greenwich (London)

  • 2011 - 2013 Counsellor at Mapesbury Clinic, Queen's Park (London)

A counselling service for refugees and people in exile.

  • 2009 - 2011 Counsellor at Brent Mind Counselling Service (London)

A counselling service that offered counselling to people referred by local GP practices (medical practices).

I have a degree in Christian Theology and have offered pastoral & spiritual care to people in hospital settings (and communities), for example:

2009 - 2017 Mental Health Chaplain at Highgate Mental Health Centre (NHS) as part of a multi -faith team, U.K.

2018 - 2022 Mental Health Chaplain & Hospital Chaplain in the Hannover Region, Germany

Having worked as a hospital chaplain, employed by the National Health Service (NHS) in the U.K., as part of a multi-faith team), I am very experienced working with bereavement and loss.

In life spirituality can be a source of comfort and strength but it can also be used to avoid the painful work of dealing with difficult experiences. Ultimately that is not helpful and I would not encourage you to do that.
